After much ado, the hubs and I finally got a week of vacation this past week. At the same time! It took nothing less than a miracle to line up, and lots of negotiating of hospital schedules. We could not have been more excited to head off to Gulf Shores last Thursday morning with high hopes of a beautiful, relaxing beach weekend. The weather forecast looked grim, but when we arrived at our condo Thursday afternoon we were treated with this beautiful vista from our balcony:
Unfortunately, that was the only nice afternoon of our entire trip. Friday morning we woke up to grey overcast skies and misty drizzles. The rain held off though and we went down to the beach anyway and tried to enjoy what we could of the windy, dismal day. After Friday evening, all bets were off and we awoke Saturday to a torrential downpour.
So what else is there to do at the beach in weather like this but eat? So eat we did. Jeff's parents happened to be in nearby Point Clear for a continuing medical education course so we met up for what turned into a 3 hour lunch at Lambert's. We all stuffed ourselves full of throwed rolls and home cooking while it rained outside, but it was so nice to get to spend some quality time with family!
Sunday morning, our last day, was the worst yet so we packed up and headed out. We stopped at the Beau Rivage casino in Biloxi for a night on the way home to extend our vacation a bit since we got jipped at the beach. We didn't win any money, but we didn't lose any either so I guess that's a good thing. The rain continued so we ate at the buffet...twice...
...in one day. Yes, I know.
So now we're back in Nola and slowly getting back to our regular routine. Today is our last day off work before we have to go back to the real world tomorrow. And of course now there's perfect weather outside.
I spent my last morning off snuggling with neediest cat in the world since she had extreme separation anxiety while we were gone:
Even though we didn't have perfect weather, it was nice to get away for awhile together before Jeff is off to Baton Rouge for his Sports rotation starting in July. And any day not spent with rats in the lab is a great day in my book!
